My Sweety Pie

Like a cute, velvety teddy bear u first came into our lives,
To bring merrier days of laughter and smiles.
Your shiny coat of fur and twinkling eyes
Were the reason for those thousand covetous sighs


You devoured milk like a baby two months old,
It didn’t even matter whether it was hot or cold,
Stealing socks from shoes was your favorite game,
No wonder they said naughtiness was your second name.

You followed me in the house anytime anywhere I went
Like I was Mary and you my little lamb
You slept on my legs when I sat down to study
Oh! the feeling of it so soft,so warm n furry

When I danced around or sang and played that invisible guitar
You used to just tilt your head probably thinking “Has this girl gone crazy or what?”
You were always there to listen to my endless talks
And if it didn’t make sense, you showed your discontent with loud angry barks

When I shared with you my grief or talked about things which made me sad
You always listened patiently like a muted pal
Then you would lick me to show me your love and say you are there
In a second all my worries seemed to just disappear

Remember the days when you pooped in the house
Then hid under the bed like a scared mouse
When Mom scolded you for the mischief you did
You just sat there listening with that innocent look

You would look around wondering where I had been
Thinking to yourself “Whenever I need her she is not to be seen”
Then when you find me ,you come to me to pat you and take your side
And say to you “Don’t worry sweetie pie ,just don’t do it next time”

So many such moments that were to me so dear
Each memory now brings in my eyes a tear
My sweetie ,my teddy though now you have gone away so far
In my heart you would forever and always be near.

PS:These lines were dedicated to my dog Caesar who died about 2 years back in India.He was 10 yrs old.
