Memories Re-visited

Among a pile of books waiting to be shelved, My hands discovered some pictures, between their yellowed pages.
With their sides, tattered and torn, Like the remnants of a past long forgotten, Popped up some blurry faces, as wistful reminders of a time gone by.
Old and as hazy as they might have appeared , They carried with them, some magic ,that slowly weaved it's way into my soul. Like a time machine that takes you back in time ,to a moment that was.
Reminiscences of the laughter we shared echoed in my ears. Stories that got formed then ,now filled up my eyes with tears.
Tears of joy, remembering the bonds formed, the moments shared. Ecstatic, I close the book and contemplate at the thought .
Nothing brings me greater joy than Re- visiting my memories this way, For of all the things,I have gathered over the years, These by far remain, the most treasured.

Those Army Days

Watching the soldiers in olive green uniforms,
Brings in a deja vu of some sorts.
Reminds me of the cantonment and the  base,
Oh bring me back those army days!

Weekdays meant riding the huge green 3 ton for a drop to school,
Weekends meant Officers Mess parties with gupshup, food, and movies so cool.
All those moments seem to dissapear in a haze
Oh bring me back those army days!

Our dictionary was filled with words like jonga, ladies meet, quarters, canteen, bhaiyas  and more,
Local customs made us dance to the tunes of Bihu and folklore.
Diwali,Xmas, Holi colours lit up our face
Oh bring me back those army days!

Flashbacks of dad's farewells filled with tunes of Jolly Good Fellow ,
All these memories and more make me feel a little mellow.
I hop and jump back to today where time flies and life is just a race,
I look up to the sky this time to make sure he heard my plea
Oh bring me back those army days!

The Paradise I dream of..

The silent whisper of the deep woods
The wake up call of the singing birds takes me to a land
A land- where the air seems magical
Where there is no wrath only love
No egos only humility
No envy only contentment
For a moment I was dreaming of a Paradise I wish for until my thoughts just escape into a foggy morning

Forever Young at Heart

May the sight of a rainbow or the first snowflakes still excite you,
May your dreams, curiosity and imagination still ignite you.
May you still find joy in watching a flower bloom or jumping on crumpled fallen leaves,
May you still find music in the swaying wind or the buzzing of bumble bees.
May the added years to your age not make you jaded or torn apart,
May you forever and always still remain young at heart.

Reminiscences

The verdure of the wine country,
The smell of eucalyptus lined on a shady winding road,
The snow capped mountains by a pristine blue ocean,
The wind ripping through your untied hair,
The sponge like grass of the green meadows,
The sand subtly pricking on your bare feet,
The magnanimity of the rocky mountains,
The sun shining through the pine trees,
Some things and feelings are so enormously beautiful
that they fail to be captured in the shot of just a lens frame.
They just need to be experienced and preserved like a red rose in a lover's book as beautiful memories inside your heart.
And on a cold winter day, when you are feeling a little blue, these memories are sure to brighten up your day!

My Rockstar

Raspberry kisses and teddy bear hug,
Peekaboo games under a blanket so snug.
Velvety tears and a sugary grin,
Around your small world do our life's wheels spin.
It's been 2 years, we have come a long way,
Today this is what I have to you, my dear say:
May you always believe in yourselves and what you stand for,
Bring cheer to all around and to great heights may you soar,
On ur 2nd bday ,i wish for all this and lot's more!!!

Love ur Mom

PS: This poem is dedicated to my lil boy as he turned 2

Picture Perfect

In the blowing wisps of sweet smelling petals,
In the fury of waves lashing on the sun-kissed rocks
In the pearl like droplets of the evocative rain
In the sand subtly pricking on my bare feet
In the mesmerizing music playing afar
I sense the pristine beauty waiting to be inhaled
It’s the ideal backdrop for the postcard shot
I think to myself,a little more of light would make it perfect
And then like a God sent angel, the Sun provides me with the flash of a 1000 watt beam
Cheese! I shout out to let out their half suppressed giggles
I stand still with my hands outstretched , close my eyes and take a deep breath
Click ! I shoot the picture which would soon become a sight to treasure
I walk back home with loads of memories and a contented sigh
For I had captured that sublime moment in the lens of my eye!
